    Hi,
I just found this newsgroup, so please forgive me if I cover old ground. I am
wanting to purchase a new Elantra GT (hatchback) with an automatic
transmission. Have there been any chronic problems with the car? Overall
    impressions?
As I read the threads, I noted certain people having problems here and there,
but I am too new to tell if this is a good car or not. I love the design, but
as a west coast driver, I will put a bunch of miles on it and need a long-term
    driver!
Thanks for both your answers and your patience. Best- Mike

    Mike,

Our 2002 Elantra GT has (knock on wood) worked flawlessly. The only problem
is that the paint that Hyundai uses scratches (& chips) easily (full nose
mask, touch-up paint, and wax has helped -they could learn a lot from
    Nissan!).

One slight issue, make sure baboons do not slam the doors shut with all
their might or you can loose the vinyl screw cover under your seats
(replaced under warranty anyway!). Bottom line- it's a great little car.

Not sure if it is just my sister's 99 Elantra or not but I have found
that Hyundai does not use enough of a coat of paint on their cars. I
have a fade mark on the top of 1 door. Every time that I have waxed
her car with Mother's Wax the surface has never felt smooth ( I have 3
Hondas(2 95's and 1 99) and on every single one the surface is baby
    smooth)
So I had her take it down to the dealer under warranty and
they told her someone buffed the car that caused this to happen. I'd
like for them to explain to me on a light hand coat of wax that this
would be caused by the wax. I'll just have to go to them myself and
    get the situation straightened out.

    Regards,
    Nick
