Re; HELP!! '93 Sonata speed problem

Discussion in 'Hyundai Sonata' started by John Doroshenko, Oct 17, 2004.

  1. Sometimes it starts out normal then when I increase the speed the, rpm
    starts to "race"
but the car doesn't go any faster, then the car will "leap" forward with
a jerk and will come slowly up to speed. I have over-drive and I notice
both dials on the dash will sometimes start off in about the same
position, the engine is racing a little at this point, then the rpm
pointer will fall back and the engine sounds "normal", other times rpm
    will
remain high (a little lower than the speedominator) and the over-drive
    doesn't kick in.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like you have a serious transmission problem. Take the car to
someone who can check the trouble codes, but this transmission was known
for being problematic. You're probably looking at replacement or overhaul
    of the transmission.
