Hyundai Amica Air Conditioning Problem

Discussion in 'Hyundai Atoz / Amica' started by Keith W Jones, Jun 1, 2004.

  1. I have an Hyundai Amica, 18 months old, less than 6K. Two weeks ago the air
conditioning packed in, I went to the dealer and for £75 they replaced the
gas. Within 10 days it had gone again. When they examined it again they
found the radiator was leaking at the front. They say the damage was caused
by chippings flying up into the radiator - hence not covered under warranty.
    New radiator around £500.

Anyone else had a similar problem?

I've had to replace a few for "stone damage." If you have comprehensive
coverage, you may wish to check with your insurance company, as I would
    expect they would cover it.

I drive an elantra, and have not had the problem. I would point out to the
dealer a possible faulty grill and aerodynamic design which allows chippings
    to ping your radiator.

Rock chips flew into the condenser, which is in front of the radiator. The
mechanic probably heard or felt hissing when he charged the a/c.

550 pounds is too much ... parts are around 200.

Can't help with the beggarly dealer but for your new condenser -
you might consider a layer of house screening between the grill and
the condenser (and radiator). Eliminates the insect cleaning and I
imagine it would also keep out the chips, eh?
