Gas Gage---Problem or common to all?

Does anyone else who has an 04 (or other model year) Sonata find that the
gas gage never quite gets to "F" unless you REALLY top it off? Mine stops
just shy of pegging out at full on the gage when you go with the first
automatic cutoff of the pump. All of the other cars that I've owned have
"overpegged" the gage and you could usually go 30 or 40 miles and it would
stay pegged before it would start moving down. My Sonata, even when REALLY
topped off (to overflowing) starts moving immediately down, even after just
    a few miles----

My 2001 Accent is similar, although it grazes the full mark when
overfull it immediately starts a slow downward movement. i would call
it quite accurate even though i preferred the old Mazda i had 15
years ago that would sometimes go 100km before moving from overfull.
i'd say Hyundai may have changed the Accent's sender unit in 2002
because of this reason. i wonder if the Sonata is getting a change?

I have the same problem with a 04' Elantra. It rarely shows full and is
already at 3/4 after about 20-40 mile of driving.

When full my 2003 will indicate FULL on the gauge and upon drive the gauge
immediately starts going down. I have found it impossible to top off the
tank as the fuel will come out of the filler no matter how careful you are.

  6. My '04 Sonata does the same thing. It really worried me at first. It
looked like my mileage was HORRIBLE, after maybe 40 miles I was down
to near three quarters of a tank. But when I would fill up, my actual
mileage was just fine. It's just at the upper range the gauge is
wildly inaccurate. Now that I KNOW that, it's okay. I called the
service manager at my dealership, and she told me it the gauge still
reads that way at first warranty service at 7500 they would see if
something was wrong. She phrased it in such a way to make it sound as
if the gauge adjusted during use and became more accurate. Now, that
makes NO sense to me, but she has been dead bang on as to other
    questions I had.

I have an 2001 Elantra GT and I too have had the same problem. I took my
car to the dealer and they have went as far as replacing the tank and the
sending unit. It worked fine for a while but now it won't go to the full
    mark.
