Has anybody done any basic tuning on their accent? I'm not expecting to
have a race car or anything, but I'm thinking of starting with intake &
exhaust (cold air, header, muffler, etc.). What kind of performance
increases are possible with upgraded intake/exhaust? How does doing
those kind of things effect your warranty?

Go to http://www.hyundaiperformance.com. They have a pretty active
group of Accent owners. The truth is that the Alpha motor isn't very
potent, even with major mods. Most people who are serious swap in the
    Beta.

Any part you replace has the warranty voided. If the part you install
causes something else to fail then the failed part is not covered.

It's a 2004 GT, so it has the 1.6 DOHC (I'm guessing that's the beta).

So for example, if I put in a header I will most likely lose warranty on
the rest of the exhaust, but things like the transmission will still be
    covered. Am I correct?

    Thanks

  4. No, that's the Alpha III. Alpha II is the 1.5L (both SOHC and DOHC),
and Alpha I was used in the last year or two of Scoupes. Beta motors
are 1.8 or 2.0L (there were some 1.6 Betas used in foreign markets for
a while in the 90s, but not in the US).

That is the way it should work. Your dealer, however, may try to void
the entire powertain warranty on the grounds that the transmission was
not designed to handle the increased HP/Torque that you were making as
    the result of the headers.

Also, I'm not sure about emissions testing up in Canada, but here in
the US, headers will cause you to fail emissions testing and/or state
inspection in a few parts of the country. Check your local laws
    before you do anything.

There was a 1.6L beta in some Elantras beginning in 1996.

This is actually Hyundai's call, not the dealer's. But anything clearly
not original or failed due to nonoriginal parts or modification is clearly
not warranty. Add to that the fact that in some cases, the dealer may not
be able to determine the effects of some modifications and may need to
return the vehicle to original configuration to determine where the
problem is. You're probably doing yourself a favor if you don't mess with
it, at least while it's under warranty.
