    Hello,

Have read that there have been a substantial number of complaints
regarding the paint, or paint application, on Hyundai's in general.

    Is this true ?

Am interested in a 2010 Elantra.

Have these paint problems been fixed on 2010 models ?

Hate to buy a new one and have paint problems after buying it.

    Any information would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Bob

I think the paint problems were fixed in the 1990's.

No, the paint on my 2006 Sonata is less than impressive. It still has a
stain from where the dealer let bird crap sit on it for a while, chips
easily and now the door handles are fading and oxidizing badly.

Most manufacturers changed to water based paints in the 80s-90s and the
result was that bird droppings messed up the paint, but that has now
    been fixed.

My '07 had perfect paint after three years and a lot of bird crap It was
silver blue so maybe some colors are better than others. Bird crap can
ruin any band of paint though.

Are the door handles painted or are they a molded plastic with the matching
color? Mine had a SS trip on them so you saw little of the paint and it
was OK. I do recall you mentioning them before but I don't recall anyone
    else with paint problems.

The first Hyundai's imported were easy to spot. They are the ones with the
big spots of primer showing through on the horizontal surfaces.

Mine is the medium blue color. I forget the exact name of the color.

I am not 100% sure, but I believe they are painted. The body man came
out and hit one with polishing compound and it restored it pretty well.
I need to get some compound to hit the rest as the body man didn't
seem inclined to do the other three. It was a little cold at the time,
but I kind of thought it was tacky to do one and then say "you can get
some polish and restore the rest of them" and then walked back into the
    garage.

I have nothing that severe, just paint that seems unusually brittle with
respect to stone chips and parts that are fading. I don't understand
why the "recall" when I first got the car replaced just the "fairing"
caps behind the handles and not the handles also. The handles are now
faded badly and the contrast with the fairing pieces which haven't faded
so bad is high. It is obvious that Hyundai knew they had a bad batch of
paint or they wouldn't have replaced part of the handle when I first
bought the car. They should have replaced the entire assembly.

I assume it is against protocol to post an image here since this isn't a
..bin group, but a picture would show quite clearly just how ugly the
handles now look. It almost looks like they forgot to clear coat them...
