Hello all. I just have a quick question, and just want to know if the
noise that I am hearing is normal or not.

I have a manual transmission. You know that rattle/chatter type noise
that you get when you're going in reverse if you have not let the
clutch out enough to go fast enough in reverse? (Which I know is
normal after having owned several manual trannys and all of them doing
this). I am hearing this exact same noise while I am stopped at a
stop light. It's a rumble/chatter/rattle type sound. Generally,
while stopped at a light, stop sign, etc. I push the clutch in all the
way and firmly apply the foot brake while in 1st gear. After sitting
(stopped) for approximately 30 seconds, this is when I hear the
noise. It's not real loud, but loud enough that I can hear it. When
the light turns green and I take off, it completely stops when I let
the clutch out to move until I have to stop and sit again. I also
discovered that I hear the noise in my driveway if the car is in
neutral with no foot on the brake and the clutch NOT pushed in.
Again, it takes about 30 seconds of sitting motionless until I hear
this noise. If I push the clutch in and shift to 1st gear and start
to just roll, the noise goes completely away. Any ideas?

I'm not familiar with your initial description of the noise, so I'm no
sure what you're hearing or how loud it is. It's a new car. Stop by th
dealer and have an experienced tech take a listen.

  3. Yeah, diagnosing sounds via email is a bear, isn't it? ;-)

FYI Tracie, holding the clutch down at stop lights all the time is a bad
practice, as it wears out the clutch release bearing prematurely. You
really should put the car in neutral and let out the clutch. Even
better, shut off the engine and leave it in gear. Restart the car and
drive away when the light changes. You'll be amazed at how much this
increases your fuel mileage (I've been doing it for years). If people
didn't mindless let their cars idle, the fuel savings would be enough to
eliminate our dependence on Middle East oil.

Thanks for the FYI. I have heard that before, but just never think to
do it. I will start doing that from now on. Also, regarding the
above noise I was referring to.....I noticed that the car only does it
after being driven for at least 1/2 hour or more. AND it does not do
it all the time. Just occasionally. I am assuming that I have
nothing to worry about as all cars make some kind of noise. This is
a new car for me (never owned a Hyundai before), so it could be just
the engine sound when idling. The factory bumper-to-bumper warranty
is great; however, that 5 yr / 60,000 mile warranty is only going to
last me approximately 2.75 years since I drive approximately 21000
miles per year. And I think the clutch components are only good for
the first 12 mo / 12,000 miles. Other than that, I LOVE my car!
