I have a fully loaded V6 with 1400 miles and driving home tonight i lost
my brakes they are anti lock ..first car ive owned with these ..when i
stepped on the brake it made a grinding noise and pulsated like it was
clanking on a gear..does this sound familar to anyone? I was driving in
a blizzard when this occured and damn near went over a bridge..this car
is new so it really pisses me off..any recalls on this?

What you describe sounds like a PROPERLY operating abs system. When
the sensors feel that the wheels have locked up it releases and
reapplies brake pressure on and off really quickly. This makes the
pulsing grinding sound that you described. In order to work properly
you have to keep pressure on the pedal and let the electronics do the
    work.

ABS will not decrease your stoping distance. It will actually increase
it by a bit because it is releasing the brake every couple of
miliseconds. The idea of ABS is that it allows you to steer away from
danger because the wheels are able to continue spinning.

If you still have concerns that it is not working properly. Take it to
a snow coverd parking lot where you can safely engage the ABS to feel
how it works with out the panick of hitting something in the back of
    your mind.

Of course if you still believe it is not working properly, have your
dealer take a peek at it.

Thanks but it shouldn"t be an audible metallic grinding..almost like
when you shift and miss a gear..that sound? Well the dealer said to
bring it by and he'll look at it..this should be expensive..lol Thanks
    for your help

**Yes, ABS makes this grind-y metallic crunching sound. It scares the
sh*t out of you if you're not used to it. It also feels like the brake
pedal is crunchy. Just keep your foot down and *steer* if you have to
panic stop for whatever reason. Many people new to ABS forget about
    the steering part. :)
