I believe that the squeel in this engine is related to the power steering. I have replaced the belt for the power steering and air conditioner. I used to think it might be related to the air conditioner until this evening when I did some work and started the car. If I turned the wheel while it was not moving, most of the time I would get the squeeling, not always though. This noise usually happens when the car is first started. Sometimes the noise is there without moving anything. This morning when stopped at a light the noise started. I turned off the blower for the heat and the noise stopped. I have added some lucas power steering additive to the fluid also. I did not have the air conditioner on but would notice that the compressor would kick on and off when the setting in the vehicle was to defrost. I am not totally convinced that it is the power steering. What can I do to verify where the noise is generated and if it is the power steering, what is suggested to fix this? I feel that the belt is sufficiently tight. I do not want to over tighten it. As the vehicle is running, there is no vibration in the belt.

ok, the alternator belt is driven by the engine. the power steering belt is driven by the alternator. so you need both belt to be tight. if this does not cure,
you need to replace the power steering fluid. find the lowest joint of the power steering return line and disconnect it. let all the oil drain, turn the steering right and left 5-6 time to drain much oil as you can, remove the reservoir, end make sure it is empty. make sure when you will re-start the car, turn again the steering many times to bleed all air. this will cure the steering issue for many years, well you can also adding some power steering additive, it will help keep the system in good shape
