Has anyone else experienced the issue with the passenger airbag indicator light going on and off, even when a passenger of the correct weight (above 56.4 pounds) is sitting in the seat? Hyundai so far has been unable to fix this issue on my 2004 Elantra, and they are still trying to work on it (they've been very responsive so far - and very appreciated!). But, it's still an issue -- and a safety issue at that if the passenger airbag won't deploy in a frotal crash!

  2. same exact problem - 2004 elantra gt.

took it in 3 times before the dealership figured out what was wrong. they
finally figured that it was the seat harness which is under the seat. the
problem is, the part is on backorder for the entire company (which is
baffling to me), so they've had my car for close to 3 weeks. the only plus
is that they have put me in a brand-new 2004 sonata with 14 miles on it - so
i'm not putting any miles on my car.

ask your dealership about it and good luck.

Does the 2004 Elantra have seperate lights for the passenger and driver
airbags? Hyundai just repurchased my 2001 Sonata in Dec. (a settlement very
much in my favor) because they couldn't fix my airbag issue. I only had 1
airbag light though. The concern is that when the airbag light is on, it
means the whole airbag system shuts itself down (at least in my Sonata).

Thanks, I'll try that with the dealer. Thing is, I remember they told me they replaced some harness piece, and I'm wondering if this was it. If so, then that wasn't the answer. If not, well, then I have something to take to them. Thanks again!
