Any ideas on why the drivers side headlight on my 2002 Elantra burns out
about every 6 months. I've got 1999 Elantra with the original headlights
but have had to replace the 2002's driver's headlight 3 times since buying
the car used in Jan '03

The dealer should cover this for you.I had the same thing,3 times on a 2001
Elantra.I didn't know it would be covered and bought the replacement bulb
at my dealer the first time. Then in another site there started to be more
and more questions about headlights burning out and someone wrote in that
Hyundai knew about this problem and that headlight bulbs (and certain
other bulbs) are covered under your warranty. When I went back for the 2nd
and 3rd time, now knowing they should be covered, they were.

  3. I had a similar problem with an Excel, though it would burn out both
headlights alternately every 6 months or so. I finally sprang for some
high-end aftermarket bulbs and never had a problem afterward.

The bulbs in the 2002 are a different design than the ones in the 1999.
From what I've been able to discern, the ones like you have in the '02
don't last as long. Unless there's some physical problem with the lamp or
it's building up mass quantities of condensation, I doubt there's any
    problem.

I have a 2001 and this happens too... I'm attempting to figure out how to
change my own headlights by this point -since I am over my 60,000 mi
warranty and they'll charge me to replace the headlight. I keep thinking
this should be simpler than what it is...

  6. It's not difficult at all. If you need instructions, they're on
    Hyundai's WebTech site.

Could you provide a link to Hyundai's Web Tech site? Thanks

I have a 2001 - unless they changed the design radically it's not hard
to change your passenser headlamp. I found that to do the driver side
I had to remove the battery in order to get to the lamp mount. THAT
was a pain in the ass.
